Every time you choose to spend your money at an independent restaurant, you are supporting you local community and all of the people that live and work there. According to the American Independent Business Alliance, studies done in Maine and Austin, Texas have shown that locally owned businesses generate 3.5 times the local economic activity as chains. In addition to that, a study in Andersonville, Illinois, demonstrated that independent businesses generate about 70 percent greater local economic activity per square foot and slightly more sales per square foot as chains.
